Is a referral required from my doctor?

 

No, a patient does not need referral by an MD before visiting a doctor of chiropractic unless indicated by your insurance plan (UnitedHealthCare and OptumHealth for example). Chiropractors and Primary Spine Practitioners are first contact physicians, and are so defined in federal and state regulations.

 

Dr. Bottesch does not believe that spinal manipulation is the cure all for every disease process. He is a firm believer that a trial of conservative spine care should be undertaken before considering more serious forms of treatment, i.e. surgery. Your condition will be closely monitored while you are under Dr. Bottesch's care and if you are not responding significantly to conservative care, he will refer you to the appropriate specialist for other forms of treatment.
